Airport passenger numbers on the ascent

PASSENGER numbers at Edinburgh Airport rose by 2.2 per cent last month, according to new figures.

In what was a good month for Scottish aviation, the country’s three main airports all saw more travellers passing through their terminals compared with May last year, when flights were hit by Icelandic volcanic ash.

Aberdeen saw the biggest increase, up 16 per cent compared with May last year, said BAA, which has since sold Edinburgh.

Glasgow Airport handled 9.8 per cent more passengers on the previous year.

Colin Matthews, BAA chief executive, said: “The continued resilience of our airports is encouraging.”
