EDINBURGH Airport was partially evacuated yesterday after a woman set off a fire alarm.

Police are currently trying to trace the woman, who is understood to have been seen acting strangely near the alarm.

A police spokesman said: "Police responded to an incident that happened at Edinburgh Airport at around 2.20pm, where a fire alarm was set off by an unidentified individual within the airport, leading to a partial evacuation of the departure lounge area.

"An investigation is under way in order to trace the person responsible for setting off the alarm. However, it is important to stress that the incident did not result in any breach of security at the airport."

Police said the number of people evacuated was in the hundreds. Edinburgh Airport operator BAA confirmed the airport was partially evacuated for around 20 minutes, and said ten flights were affected.
