African immigrant promised cash for scamming iPhones

A poverty-stricken African immigrant was told he would be paid cash if he scammed two iPhone 4s from a mobile operator, a court has heard.

Olayinka Ogunsuada stood to gain just 100 for the trendy handsets which are worth more than 500 each.

But his number was up when he couldn't answer security questions about the fake ID he was using. Staff at the Orange phone store called the police, and Ogunsuada was charged with attempted fraud.

Ogunsuada, 33, of Plaistow Park Road, London, appeared for sentence for attempted fraud at Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday.

He earlier admitted pretending to a worker at the shop in Livingston Centre that he was Karl Williams from Uxbridge, Greater London, in an attempt to get two iPhones added to Mr Williams' contract.

Sheriff Donald Muirhead sentenced Ogunsuada to carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work.
