Affordable homes plan set for green light

PLANS for more than 100 affordable homes at Western Harbour look set to be given the go-ahead.

The planning application from Port of Leith Housing Association to build 111 flats opposite Lindsay Road is due to be discussed by councillors on Wednesday, and planning officials have recommended that they approve the proposals.

The scheme is part of Forth Ports' Western Harbour masterplan area.

Developers say that 99 of the flats will be available for affordable rent, with 12 for low-cost home ownership.

A new spur road would also be built to the west of the site, to link it to two other housing developments.

The plans attracted a number of objections, ranging from concerns about height to the impact on listed properties at the nearby Annfield.

John Bury, head of planning at the city council, said: "The proposal is acceptable in principle and offers an acceptable design solution for the site. conforming largely with the aims of the masterplan and urban design framework."
