Accountant jailed for swindling £1m

AN ACCOUNTANT who stole more than £1m from a charity, a church, the elderly and even cancer victims was jailed for five years yesterday.

David Atkinson, 59, from Heywood, Greater Manchester, conned his victims into handing over their savings "in a gratuitous breach of trust". He tricked more than 100 people with promises of a 40 per cent return on any cash ploughed into a fake business.
