Abertay to seek new head

A UNIVERSITY is to go ahead with the recruitment of a new principal, despite ongoing uncertainty over its future.

Abertay University confirmed yesterday that it will recruit its next permanent principal and vice-chancellor following discussions with the Scottish Funding Council (SFC).

The SFC, the body which distributes funding to colleges and universities, had previously asked Abertay to delay the move while a full evaluation and analysis of the role of the university was undertaken as part of a wider look at post-16 education in Tayside and across Scotland.

The request was followed by proposals for a merger between Abertay and Dundee universities. Both institutions were contacted by the SFC in September, setting out the financial and educational case for a merger.

They were asked to respond by the end of this month.
