Abernethy car crash pensioner rushed to hospital

AN elderly female pensioner was rushed to hospital with serious injuries today after being cut free from the wreckage of her car following a crash in a Perthshire village.

The 86 year-old woman was trapped in her Vauxhall Corsa after it collided with bollard and lamppost in Perth Road in Abernethy.

She had to be cut free from the wreckage by fire-fighters from Tayside Fire and Rescue Service using using hydraulic cutting equipment.

A spokeswoman for Tayside Police said:; “An 86 year old woman driving a black Vauxhall Corsa westwards in Perth Road in Abernethy, near to the junction with Main Street, collided with central bollard and lighting column. Emergencies services attended and she has been taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee with serious injuries.

“The road has been closed while crash investigations are being carried and local diversions are in place. Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the Corsa being driven on the Newburgh to Abernethy Road prior to the collision. “
