Pre-election profile

A predominantly urban constituency, it no longer contains the more affluent suburbs to the north of the city after a boundary change. The area is dominated by council estates and the university, making it safe Labour territory. However, the SNP holds the equivalent Holyrood seat and harbours some hopes, however slim, of snatching it.
