Aberdeen council leader 'assaulted' in city pub

POLICE are investigating claims that the leader of Aberdeen City Council was assaulted in a pub.

John Stewart was the victim of an alleged attack close to the authority's headquarters last night.

The incident is said to have taken place in the Kirkgate bar at around 9pm.

A Grampian Police spokesman said the force was investigating the reports.

Mr Stewart said: "The matter is with the police and I will be making no comment."
