Aberdeen car crash woman dies in hospital

A WOMAN who suffered serious injuries when her car was involved in a two-car crash in Aberdeen yesterday has died in hospital.

The collision between a Ford Fiesta and a Volkswagen Beetle happened on the city’s South Deeside Road at about 5:30pm yesterday.

The 55-year-old woman behind the wheel of the Ford Fiesta was taken to the city’s Royal Infirmary, where she died in the early hours of today.

Relatives of the woman, who was from the Aberdeen area, have been told and she will be formally identified later.

The 58-year-old woman driving the Beetle suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital.

The crash prompted the closure of the road for about six hours, police said.

Road policing sergeant Ian Falconer said: “This was a tragic incident resulting in the death of a 55-year-old woman and our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time.

“Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are continuing and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw a Ford Fiesta and a Volkswagen Beetle at around 5:30pm on the B9077 South Deeside Road to contact us.”
