Abandoned car linked to Tesco raid

DETECTIVES investigating an armed robbery at an Aberdeen supermarket have discovered an abandoned car believed to be linked to the raid.

Grampian Police revealed yesterday that a dark-coloured Subaru Impreza had been found on the Cove to Findon road at about midnight on Sunday, shortly after three armed and masked robbers fled with more than £10,000 after threatening staff at the Tesco Express in Great Western Road, Aberdeen, with a “bladed weapon”.

Detective Inspector Norman Stevenson, who is leading the investigation, said: “Officers are continuing to piece together the events immediately before and after the robbery.

“This has included the use of forensic teams and door-to-door inquiries, as well as studying CCTV footage from Tesco and other businesses in the area.”

He said anyone who saw the vehicle or the three men should come forward.

“We are determined to bring those responsible to justice and it may be that someone in the local area has seen something which they believe to be insignificant but may be vital link we are looking for,” he added.

The men being sought are described as being in their late teens or early twenties. They were wearing dark clothes, including hooded tops.

Grampian Police declined to specify the type of weapon used in the robbery, but have confirmed it was not a knife.
