A rock solid apprentice

A NORTH Berwick apprentice has been crowned James Birnie Adult Apprentice of the Year.

Malcolm Landells, 25, was recognised for the breadth and depth of skills he showed in his apprenticeship in stonemasonry with IW Masonworks.

He was presented with the award by Delhi Commonwealth Games silver medallist Charline Jointer at an awards ceremony at Glasgow City Chambers on Thursday.

Iain Wilkie, director of IW Masonworks, who nominated Malcolm, said: "I am delighted for Malcolm. His practical excellence, coupled with his enthusiasm and attention to detail, makes him a very promising stonemason."
