A place to belong

In Glasgow the regeneration of the city centre and waterfront continues to offer a wealth of apartments aimed at young professionals and downsizers, while the suburbs have a huge choice of family homes and refurbished properties full of character.

With sweeping vistas across the city, the 11-storey Vantage building on Clyde Street, from Edinburgh-based Treetops Developments, offers a mix of one- and two -bedroom apartments, each with a balcony. Starting at 136,000 for a one-bedroom apartment and 179,000 for a two -bedroomed property, the homes are cutting edge with curved glass brick walls and floor-to-ceiling windows.

In the city centre, Ogilvie Homes have launched Equilibrium Apartments, 41 two- and three-bedroom homes with great cityscape views from the upper penthouses and a private landscaped courtyard garden to the rear. Prices start in the region of 175,000.

Persimmon’s refurbishment of the B-listed Sheriff Court building has created 62 one-to-three-bedroom duplexes and the stunning exterior is matched by attractive interiors featuring curved walls and extensive landings. Over at QE3 on the prestigious Clydeside Festival Park site, things are shipshape at the building named for its resemblance to a boat’s stern, and the 72 one-, two- and three-bedroom properties include the ultimate singleton’s city pad residence, a one-bedroom property on the top of the tower. Prices start at 139,995 for one-bedroom, 224,995 for a two-bedroom, while three -bedroom duplexes start at 369,995.

Friary Court in the New Gorbals from Miller Homes is part of the Crown Street Regeneration Project, where 71, two and three-bedroom apartments and duplexes are located within seven wedge-shaped blocks that sit side by side to create a sweeping curve. Located off Cumberland Street, the homes start from 117,000 for a ground floor two-bedroom apartment.

In the popular West End, Strathclyde Homes have seven two-bedroom apartments in Novar Drive, with lifts to all floors and an en suite bathroom. "We are expecting a large amount of interest," says sales director Susan Maxwell.

On Glasgow’s leafy south side at Cala’s Toledo Court in Clarkston Road, incentives are available if you can move quickly into the two-bedroom apartments starting at 199,000. Also on the south side from Cala is Norwood Court, two- and three-bedroom apartments on Mansionhouse Road, whose stone properties are arranged in four "houses" around two private courtyards and start at 186,000.

FM Homes have started building at The Point in Kilmarnock Road, Glasgow, where 64 homes, a mix of one- and two -bedroom apartments as well as three bedroom duplexes, will be contained in two buildings and will start at 125,000.

In the suburb of Crookston, Miller Homes has opened a show apartment at Tower View on the site of Leverndale Hospital. A mixture of refurbished and new-build properties available in one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom styles, prices start from 108,000 for a one-bedroom refurbished apartment and 116,000 for a two-bedroom new-build apartment. Also available is a collection of townhouses priced from 225,000 for a four-bedroom Kingsborough. Miller also has family homes at Keeper’s Gate in Calderpark, Uddingston, with 52, three-, four- and five-bedroom villas starting at 187,000 for a three-bedroom Tamar. Also commutable is George Wimpey’s Beechcroft in Dalry, where 95 four-bedroom homes start at 160,000.

At West Greenlees in Cambuslang, Bett Homes properties range from the four bed detached Blairmore with integral garage to the four-bedroom detached Newburgh II with double garage.
