HE has cycled up a tree and somersaulted and pedalled his way across the Capital to become an internet sensation.

• Danny found fame with his Edinburgh stunts

Now biking boy wonder Danny MacAskill is gearing up to get a handle on the Big Apple as he prepares to shoot a stunt video in New York.

Similar to his debut Edinburgh-based film Inspired Bicycles, which has now racked up more than 23 million web hits, Danny plans to meander up, down and around landmarks of the American city.

The announcement comes as Danny, who splits his time between Skye, Fort William and Edinburgh, is poised to attend the Edinburgh premier for his latest video, Way Back Home.

On February 20 the seven-and-a-half-minute clip will be aired to fans and friends at the Hawke & Hunter bar, on Picardy Place. It shows the street trails biker perform his tricks between Edinburgh and Skye as he makes his way back to his birthplace. He soars down the Castle rampart, scales benches and zooms across railings on his trusty bike. Danny said he was finally feeling 100 per cent better having suffered broken collarbones three times since September 2009.

The 25-year-old said: "After filming Way Back Home I took a bit of time out so I could mend my shoulder. The filming was intense and there were times when I struggled.

"I've been resting up on Syke, doing a bit of light work on my mountain bike. I couldn't go a day without riding, I have always looked at the world as a giant playground. It was nice to ride for myself, without a camera in my face.

"Now I'm feeling good. I've been travelling around in my camper van to see friends and I'm getting ready to do an advert for a company in South Africa. Then I'll head to New York some time around May to film the new clip with Dave Sowerby. It'll be good to work with him like I did on Inspired Bicycles."

Danny thinks New York might be his biggest challenge yet. He said: "The security in New York is going to be huge. Filming somewhere like that will be very different to Edinburgh. There's very high security and every square metre is privately owned or has police patrolling. I think it'll be hard to bike anywhere without getting stopped, so I'll have to get permission. I'm not sure what landmarks I'll tackle yet, but I'm going out for a scout around soon."

He added: "It'll be great to be back in Edinburgh for the premier, and I'll hopefully have a small one on Skye too.

"I don't know if I'd ever be able to do another video in Edinburgh like Inspired Bicycles. I put so much work into it, I feel like I truly captured the place. I'm not sure I could recreate that."
