'A great outcome for all': Sheep rescued after being stuck on cliff-top for four days

A coastguard team in Lochaber in the Highlands rescued a sheep from a ledge on top of a cliff yesterday, after it was stuck there for four days.

Farm workers were growing increasingly concerned for the sheep which had been stuck up a cliff at Samalaman House in Glenuig for four days.

However, in what was described as a ‘great outcome for all’, the Mallaig Coastguard Rescue Team managed to prompt the woolly intrepid climber to jump off the ledge to safety at its owner’s feet yesterday afternoon by using special ‘tech’ equipment and creating a plan of action.

In a Facebook post yesterday, January 28, the Mallaig Coastguard Rescue Team wrote: “The Mallaig team were tasked alongside Salen CRT and S18A today at 12.29pm.

"We had a request for assistance from a nearby local who had one of his sheep stuck on a ledge at the top of a cliff at Samalaman House in Glenuig.

"At the scene, we set up for an immediate descent and the tech was lowered above the animal's location.

"This was enough to prompt it to jump off the ledge, and then make it's way down to its owner.

“A great outcome for all!”
