A great big excuse to play all day

Youngsters Sam Webb, five, and his sister Amber, three, were enjoying the giant children's play area created in the Grassmarket yesterday to mark National Playday.

The family-friendly event promotes the importance of outdoor play for young children and encourages adults to get involved too.

There were six play zones to encourage free, unstructured fun for young children. The event was part of the city council's strategy to highlight the benefits of imaginative play.
