A chance to Potter around exhibit of piper pictures

A NEW exhibition of photographs of Haddington Pipe Band has opened at an East Lothian gallery.

Peter Potter Gallery in Haddington is exhibiting photos by three photographers - John Archibald, Nick Callaghan and Garry Menzies - taken over the past nine months.

The photos were taken for a commemorative calendar for 2011 - the band's 30th anniversary year, and the fundraising calendar was also launched at the gallery on Saturday.

The band's pipe major, David Leckie said: "We were keen to avoid the standard photos of a band marching along a street and have worked with these outstanding photographers to come up with something a bit different which captures some of the character of the band and the area in which we live."

One of the most striking photos is of Pipe Major Leckie himself, head bowed in St Mary's Church as poppies fall around him.

The exhibition will run until 23 October and the calendars cost 5.
