9kg of heroin seized in 'routine' check

POLICE have seized drugs worth £900,000 after stopping a car during a routine check.

Officers in Midlothian found 9kg (20lb) of heroin in the car, which was stopped during a "routine road check" near Howgate on Tuesday.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Police said 5,000 ecstasy tablets worth about 5,000 were also found at an address. The spokeswoman said: "A 27-year-old man has been charged in connection with this recovery."

Elsewhere, police seized heroin with an estimated street value of 25,000 after two vehicles were stopped in a Tesco store's car park in Kingsway, Dundee, and on the A90 Dundee to Forfar road. The two cars were stopped at about 7:30pm on Tuesday.

Tayside Police said a 39-year-old Liverpool man, and a man, 27, and woman, 30, from Forfar, were arrested.
