9am briefing: train services at Waverley return to normal

RAIL services out of Edinburgh's Waverley station were finally due to return to normal this morning after a train was derailed on Wednesday.

The train was removed from the tracks close to Princes Street Gardens last night after the Rail Accident Investigation Branch concluded its on-site investigation amid claims a points failure had been to blame for the incident.

Some early trains were still disrupted earlier today.

Woman charged with memorial teddy theft

A WOMAN has appeared in court charged with stealing a teddy bear from a memorial to a six-year-old boy, it was reported today.

Natalie Golder is accused of stealing the cuddly toy just three days after it was left at the spot where Liam McDonald was hit by a car.

Liam was knocked down and killed by a Vauxhall Corsa outside Seton Sands Holiday Park, near Longniddry in East Lothian, last Tuesday.

Yesterday Golder, 21, of Hamilton, denied the allegation during a hearing at Haddington Sheriff Court.

Liam, of Prospecthill in Glasgow, was holidaying with his grandmother. The case against Golder will be called again at court next month.
