9am Briefing: Talks held in bid to break rail strike deadlock

TALKS were taking place today in a bid to end the deadlock in the ScotRail dispute which has seen three 24-hour walk-outs.

Union leaders were meeting Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson in an attempt to resolve the ongoing row over the company's plans to run driver-only trains on the new Airdrie to Bathgate service.

The RMT union says passenger safety will be jeopardised if conductors are not be employed on the 300 million line due to open in December.

MILLIONAIRES are splashing out on expensive homes in Edinburgh despite the recession.

Figures show 42 houses were sold in the Capital last year for 1 million or more - including one which went for 3.75m, making it the most expensive in Scoltand, it was reported today.

Stolen van driven into the Forth

AN investigation is under way today after a van stolen near the Forth Road Bridge plunged into a dock.

The vehicle went into the water at the dock in Methil, Fife, yesterday afternoon after being spotted by police in the town.

Police refused to comment today on reports that a body had been recovered from the water.

Porter's love helped hair grow back

GAIL Porter has revealed how finding love has helped her hair grow back - five years after going bald with alopecia.

The TV presenter said she was "finally happy" with her boyfriend Jonny Davies, from indie band New Vinyl and revealed how her hair was growing back, it was reported today.

She said: "It's unbelievable. It's 95 per cent there. I keep playing with it all the time. It's so exciting and I posted a picture of my head on twitter."

Prince's jet damaged

A SAUDI Prince's jet was damaged just hours after in touched down at Edinburgh Airport, it was reported today.

The accident occurred after multi-billionaire Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud - the 19th richest man in the world - jetted in with his entourage on a private business trip.

Airport bosses confirmed the incident, but branded it a "minor scrape".
