Business and arts development planned for former brewery site

PLANS have been drawn up for a new hub for the creative industries and the performing arts on the site of Scottish & Newcastle's former brewing plant at Fountainbridge.

The brewery has lain empty since it was shut more than five years ago.

Plans by HBOS for a major new office complex were put on hold by the banking crisis.

Now the site could become a new cultural quarter for performers, artists, designers, computer gaming experts and architects, complete with major indoor and outdoor performance areas.

A new masterplan for the site is also thought to include provision for a hotel, offices, shops, student flats and a waterside park.
