• THE McEwan Hall has been ruled out as a venue for this year's Festival Fringe because of organ restoration work in the building.

The hall, which is Edinburgh University's graduation hall, was first used as a venue last year by Underbelly and was credited with the whole Fringe selling more tickets than ever before.

THE family of Colour Sergeant Alan Cameron, who died a year after being injured in Afghanistan, have spoken about their pain at the loss. The 42-year-old died suddenly at home in Livingston despite apparently making a good recovery from head injuries sustained when he was caught in the blast from an improvised explosive device near Lashkar Gah. Brother Iain said: "It might have been easier to take losing him in Afghanistan, but we had him in our lives for another year.

"For that we can always be grateful."
