9am Briefing: Police hunt for sex attacker

POLICE are investigating the sexual assault of a 27-year-old woman in bushes close to a public footpath in Livingston last night.

The incident took place between Cedarbank and Cloverbank in Ladywell yesterday evening.

Police are following a positive line of inquiry and are not linking it to the alleged serious sexual assault in Livingston last Saturday. A 22-year-old male has been remanded in custody in connection with this incident.

• A HIGH ranking policewoman has been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice. Lothian and Borders Chief Inspector Allison Strachan, 48, was arrested at her Edinburgh home on Tuesday.

Police have released her and she is due to appear at court next month. A police spokesperson said: "A 48-year-old police officer has been arrested and charged in relation to an ongoing inquiry."

• AROUND twenty five firefighters tackled a blaze at a house in Gilmerton last night.

The fire broke out in the single storey property in Old Mill Lane just after 7pm and firefighters used two lines of hose and six breathing apparatus to extinguish the flames.

A fire service spokesman said a presence was still being maintained at the scene this morning.

• A WOMAN was treated for minor injuries following a collision at Holy Corner on Morningside Road yesterday.

The collision between a car and a motorcycle occurred at around 5.20pm.

Paramedics treated the woman at the scene for cuts and bruises but she did not need to go to hospital.
