9am Briefing: Police continue hunt for Suzanne Pilley amid claims she had row with lover

POLICE were today continuing their hunt in a remote beauty spot for clues to the suspected murder of the missing city bookkeeper Suzanne Pilley as reports claimed she had a bust-up with her married lover 48 hours before she disappeared.

Over the weekend detectives appealed to tourists enjoying the warm weather in Argyll and Bute for help in finding the body of the 38-year-old.

Detectives believe Ms Pilley, from Stenhouse, was murdered in the basement of her workplace in the city some time after arriving for work on 4 May.

Runner dies after collapse

A RUNNER has died after collapsing during the Edinburgh marathon.

The 52-year-old man, who was running as part of a four-person relay team in yesterday's event, was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but later died.

Some runners struggled in the heat as the temperature reached 23C.

More than 9,000 runners completed the marathon, out of 14,000 registered entrants.

Lucky escape for boy

A TWELVE-year-old boy escaped with nothing more than a twisted ankle after falling 150ft down a hill.

The youngster was rescued by firefighters after the fall at North Berwick Law - a 600ft hill which towers over the East Lothian town - shortly before 10pm on Saturday.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said the boy had been "lucky" to receive just a minor injury after the tumble.

Taser used to subdue man

POLICE used a Taser to subdue a man following an alleged disturbance at a house in West Lothian.

The 20-year-old was shot with the stun gun after he became violent in a property in East Main Street, Broxburn, on Saturday.

He was taken to St John's Hospital in Livingston, where he was assessed by medical staff before being released and then charged in connection with the disturbance.

Woman treated after attack

A WOMAN is being treated for a serious head injury after being attacked and thrown to the ground during an assault in Midlothian.

The 38-year-old had just got off a bus with two friends in Loanhead at about 11:30pm on Saturday when the man knocked her to the ground in Muirfield Gardens, causing her to strike her head.

The suspect was with another man and woman and all three left the scene in a dark-coloured people carrier belonging to a private hire firm, the police said.

Hunt for missing pensioner

POLICE are appealing for information to help trace a missing pensioner who has not been seen since Saturday.

William Falconer, 73, left his home in Drum Street around 11:30am and has not made contact with friends or family since.

A diabetic, he left home without his medication and has also missed a dialysis appointment, heightening concerns for his well-being.

Police said the pensioner's Ford Fiesta may have been spotted at around 4pm on Saturday in Sunderland, but said there had been no information on his movements after that.
