9am Briefing: Passengers in hospital after train crash

The train, the 6:20pm service from Glasgow to Oban, had been filled with travellers returning from weekend trips away and derailed shortly before 9pm last night near the Falls of Cruachan power station, by Loch Awe, in Argyll.

Around eight people were injured during the crash.

Duke of Hamilton dies

THE Duke of Hamilton, Scotland's premier peer, has died after a long battle with dementia.

Angus Douglas-Hamilton died at his home in East Lothian on Saturday at the age of 71.

His wife, Kay Hamilton, a passionate animal rights campaigner, paid tribute to her husband as a "wonderful, fun and loving man".

The Hamilton dukedom is the oldest in Scotland, dating back to the mid-17th century.

Woman injured as cars collide

A WOMAN has been rushed to hospital with suspected spinal injuries after two cars were in collision.

The vehicles, which were travelling in the south of Blackburn on the B792, crashed at around 6am this morning.

The 27-year-old woman was taken to the ERI after being cut from the vehicle.

Fire probe

POLICE are investigating after a fire broke out in two homes in West Lothian.

Fire crews got the call just before 8am yesterday to attend the blaze in the Myreside area of Winchburgh and battled the flames until 6:30pm.

Police are investigating and the fire is being treated as suspicious.

The building has been destroyed and will have to be demolished.

Pilley ex tells of anguish

THE ex-husband of missing woman Suzanne Pilley has told of his devastation over her disappearance.

Peter Durrand revealed that on the day they last met, Ms Pilley told him she had met someone and "seemed happy", it has been reported.

Police are investigating the suspected murder of the 38-year-old book-keeper and say they are closing in on the site where her body is believed to be hidden.

The couple divorced in 2008.
