9am Briefing: Man shot and stabbed in city pub

A MAN was seriously injured when he was shot and stabbed at a city pub.

The 24-year-old is being treated at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary following the attack at the Jock's Lodge pub, near Meadowbank.

He was shot in the face and stabbed in the upper thigh at around 8.30pm last night. Police said he is in a "serious but stable condition" and are appealing for witnesses.

URI Geller plans to seek permission to excavate his tiny island in the Firth of Forth, after being "mesmerised" on his first trip there.

The self-styled "mystifier" said he plans to return to Lamb Island this summer, after spending Saturday night camping on the island. He said he had a strong feeling there is buried treasure there, after exploring the island with dowsing rods.

City soldiers killed in Afghanistan are named

TWO teenagers have been named as the latest British military deaths in Afghanistan.

The soldiers, from Edinburgh-based 3rd Battalion The Rifles, were named as Rifleman Jonathon Allott, 19, from Bournemouth, and Rifleman Liam Maughan, 18, from Doncaster. They were killed in separate incidents on Friday and Saturday. Both men died near Sangin in Helmand province.
