9am Briefing: Hospital sex attacker hunted

A SEX attacker is being hunted by police after a teenager was grabbed and sexually assaulted as she walked near a hospital.

The attack took place yesterday afternoon as the 18-year-old woman walked along a footpath close to St John's Hospital in Livingston.

Police said she was subjected to a serious sexual assault and described the incident as "a terrifying ordeal".

They have made an urgent appeal for witnesses.

Man saved from flat blaze

A MAN was rescued by firefighters after a blaze broke out in a flat in East Lothian.

The 69-year-old man, named locally as Charles Clarke, was found unconscious in the first-floor property at Muirfield Terrace in Gullane.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by ambulance with a police escort.

Ambulance staff said he was still unconscious on arrival at the hospital but his current condition is not known.

Woman in court over OAP's death

A WOMAN was due in court today in connection with the death of an elderly man in Niddrie.

Lothian and Borders Police launched an investigation after 65-year-old David Greenhill died as a result of injuries sustained during an incident at his home in Niddrie Marischal Drive on Tuesday.

The 54-year-old woman was set to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

Anger at restrictions

PROPOSED traffic restrictions linked to the city's tram project have attracted more than 400 objections, it was reported today.

The changes would include alterations to key junctions, big reductions in parking and a ban on vehicles crossing tram tracks except at traffic lights.

More than half the 426 objections were about the proposed ban on right turns into and out of Blenheim Place, off London Road.
