9am Briefing: Flat fire 'suspicious'

A FLAT fire in West Lothian which resulted in a woman being rescued and taken to hospital is believed to be suspicious.

The blaze broke out shortly after 5am yesterday in the Moorelands area of Addiewell.

The 48-year-old woman had to be rescued by two firefighters from her first-floor living room window.

She was taken to St John's Hospital in Livingston as a precaution and was later discharged.

Panic button for MacAskill after assault

JUSTICE Secretary Kenny MacAskill has been forced to install panic buttons in his own constituency office following an assault on a member of staff and two attempted thefts.

Parliament bosses agreed to pay the 2200 cost of installing the alarms, and will meet further running costs of 550 a year.

Woman in hospital after crash

A PREGNANT woman was among four casualties taken to hospital after a collision on the M9 near the Forth Road Bridge.

The accident took place between the bridge and its spur, and involved an HGV vehicle with a trailer and two cars.

The casualties were understood to be suffering from back injuries and whiplash. The collision happened at around 11.50am yesterday.
