9am Briefing: Fire guts sports pavilion

Fire gutted a sports pavilion in Sighthill Public Park overnight.

The blaze, on Broomhouse Road, was reported around 3am and tackled by firefighters using breathing apparatus. It was extinguished by 5.30am.

Crews also attended a fire against the ground floor of derelict flats at nearby Weir Court, Sighthill Bank, around 12.30am. No-one was injured.

• Thousands of students have been caught in a crackdown on university cheats across Scotland, including hundreds in Edinburgh. New technology which enables universities to scan the internet for passages students have copied into their essays found that 618 students at Edinburgh University had plagiarised the work of others over the past five years, and 828 at Napier University.

• Edinburgh was the fifth worst place in the UK for credit card fraud last year, new figures reveal. A study by life assistance company CPP found that 31 per cent of people had been affected by credit card fraud.
