9am Briefing: Care home to be closed amid police probe

A letter from Edinburgh City Council sent to relatives of people at Elsie Inglis nursing home reportedly states that a 59-year-old resident, who later died, had developed a serious pressure sore.

It also reportedly said the sore was not being "treated properly" and listed a number of other faults at the home.

The unnamed woman became ill last Monday and died two days later in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, sparking a police investigation into conditions at the private nursing home, which has been taken over by NHS Lothian and Edinburgh City Council.

The most vulnerable of the 70 residents have been evacuated, with the remaining residents being moved out today and taken to other local care homes or to the city's Astley Ainslie Hospital.

The 14-year-old suffered concussion after yobs hurled 2p coins at him - just after Celtic manager Neil Lennon was allegedly assaulted by a Hearts fan.

Jack, who lives in Loanhead, Midlothian, said: "I love helping Hearts and this won't stop me."
