9am Briefing: Call for witnesses after assaults and robberies

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two separate assaults and robberies on Saturday night.

A 21-year-old man was pinned against the wall in Richmond Place and had items stolen from his pockets at about 11pm, and at around 3.30am a 22-year-old was pulled into a close off Nicolson Street and had his wallet and phone stolen.

Police are not linking the two attacks.

• CITY car club is set for a takeover after founder James Findlayson invited bids from potential buyers. It is thought the sale could raise 10 million. The organisation was founded in Edinburgh in 1998 and now operates in 14 cities across the UK.

• A 15-year-old cancer sufferer and her friends have been told they could not enter Edinburgh Zoo dressed as Easter bunnies, because it would cause psychological distress to the animals. Laura Gibson and her friends made the trip as a special treat but were told to remove their costumes. They went bowling instead.

• TWO cars were involved in a collision on the A7 near the Gowkley Moss roundabout in Penicuik, Midlothian yesterday.

Fire crews were called to the scene and freed one of the drivers. Both drivers were treated in hospital for shock and minor injuries.
