9am Briefing: Body found on roof of Waverley station

A MAN'S body was found on the roof of Waverley Station, beneath North Bridge, at around 10am on Sunday.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the man was seen outside the Bank Hotel on the Royal Mile at around 4.15am on Sunday. He was wearing a dark blue and black striped shirt, black trousers and black trainers.

• A JOINER from Penicuik is reported to have drowned in a sacred river in India. Robert Mochrie, 30, was swept away by a powerful current as he swam with a friend in the Tungab hadra river.

Hundreds of villagers helped search for his body, which was found two days later.

• FIVE people, including three children, were rescued from a rock at sea after they were cut off by the tide.

A member of the public raised the alarm at 2.20pm yesterday after spotting them stranded on Gegan Rock near Tantallon Castle in East Lothian.

Dunbar Inshore Lifeboat rescued the group, with the Coastguard rescue team on standby.
