9am Briefing: Body found on Arthur's Seat identified

POLICE have identified a man whose body was found on Arthur's Seat at the weekend.

Andrew Algeo, 45, from the Restalrig area was spotted at around 10pm on Sunday by spectators watching the firework display.

Lothian and Borders Police said that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

McConnell slams Labour's time in Westminster government

FORMER First Minister Jack McConnell has delivered a damning verdict on Labour's time in government at Westminster.

In a scathing attack published on his website, he hit out over MPs' expenses and the failure of UK party colleagues over devolution.

He said: "We had many successes in government, but on too many occasions, I have been embarrassed by our conduct.

"The greed of individuals, party centralisation and inconsistent policy on the hoof have been damaging, and at times indefensible. And we failed to adapt to the new political landscape of Britain."

Bridge paint peeling off

PAINT being applied to the Forth Rail Bridge that is supposed to last 25 years is reportedly peeling off - before the first coat has even been applied.

The bridge, which has famously needed constantly repainting since it opened in 1890, is under going a 74 million makeover to cut down on maintenance costs.

A new long lasting 'miracle' paint containing glass flakes was supposed to last at least until 2032, but workers have told how large patches are already flaking, it was reported today.
