9am Briefing: Body found in hunt for missing Mary

DETECTIVES searching for the body of pensioner Mary Ferns, who vanished almost three years ago, have discovered remains on a river bank in West Lothian.

The skeletal remains were found by the River Almond in Craigshill, Livingston at around 3pm yesterday.

Officers came across the body, which has not yet been identified as human, close to Cromarty Court, as they searched the area for the missing pensioner.

• FORMER Death Row Scot Kenny Richey is back in jail after allegedly threatening to kill his fiance and son.

The 46-year-old from Edinburgh is said to have flown into a rage while high on prescription drugs and alcohol.

Ex-wife Wendy Amerud, 54, reportedly called police after she and son Sean Richey, 25, allegedly suffered two days of abuse at their home in Minnesota.

• AN Edinburgh University academic has warned that bigotry affects Hearts and Hibs as well as the Old Firm.

Dr John Kelly, an expert in sport and sectarianism, said he heard offensive chants sung by supporters of both clubs at the weekend derby at Easter Road.

Twenty fans were thrown out of the ground for unruly behaviour and another three were arrested for alleged drunkenness and encroaching onto the pitch.

Dr Kelly, who says he has no affiliation to either team, said: "The latest Hibs-Hearts derby exposed the bigoted, intolerant and inflammatory behaviour of some Edinburgh fans that seems to have escaped scrutiny from the police and media alike."

• FORMER Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher is to tie the knot with his city-born partner Sara MacDonald, it was reported today.

The couple, who have two sons together, have been an item since meeting in Ibiza in 2000.
