THOUSANDS of women braved the rain to put on a show at the biggest Ladies Day yet at Musselburgh racecourse.

The wet weather inspired a few colourful outfits mixing fashion with practicality, as race-goers paired wellies with glamorous dresses, while organisers handed out 4,500 free see-through ponchos.

There was no shortage of candidates for the much-coveted title of Queen of Style, with 100 well-dressed women all hoping to win the £3,000 cash prize.

Dana Turnbull, 21, from Restalrig, Edinburgh, was awarded the crown after impressing judges with a cream sleeveless dress and matching platform stilettos.

With hats the order of the day, the most eye-catching number featured an array of dazzling green peacock feathers. Superstitious people believe them to be bad luck, but they weren’t for Clare Stubbs, from Duddingston, who won the £250 award for Most Stylish Hat.

The King of Style prize was won by Daryl Mills, from Portobello, while eight women from Edinburgh won the Style Icon award for their glamorous group look.
