Around 40 firefighters were at the scene tackling the blaze which was brought under control by about 11pm last night.

Tayside Police said that residents were not expected to be able to return to their homes until today at the earliest.

Many went to stay with friends and family but accommodation for those who needed it was provided by Dundee City Council and Hillcrest Housing Association, as both agencies have properties affected by the fire.
