6ft 7in BMX rider fined £50

A MAN who is 6ft 7in has been convicted of dangerously riding a child's BMX bike.

Andrew Notman, 28, was spotted by police officers swerving past pedestrians along a footpath in Galashiels on 11 June.

Two police officers were injured in a fracas after stopping Notman and had to be assisted by a member of the public as they tried to handcuff him.

Yesterday, Graham Fraser, prosecuting, told Selkirk Sheriff Court: "Because of his height and build, he proved to be a difficult customer to deal with."

Notman admitted riding a bicycle that was too small for him dangerously on a footpath and causing danger to pedestrians.

He also pled guilty to charges of struggling violently with police officers and making threats.

Fining Notman 50, the sheriff said: "This was all unnecessary."
