600 staff to be recruited to work on the 2011 Census

ALMOST 600 people are to be recruited to help with next year's Census for Edinburgh.

Headed up by Alastair Macintyre for Edinburgh West and Paul Poplawski for Edinburgh East, the census on 27 March 2011 will see staff being recruited, trained and equipped to deliver questionnaires to around 2.5 million households.

One of Mr Macintyre and Mr Poplawski's first tasks is to recruit nearly 600 temporary staff to support the population survey.

Meanwhile, former teacher Mr Poplawski will oversee the recruitment and training of eight district managers, 24 team leaders and 288 census takers in Edinburgh East.
