500,000 Brits have an offshore account

Tax inspectors have identified around half-a-million UK residents with money in offshore bank accounts as part of a crackdown on evasion.

They have been surprised by how many middle-class people put their assets into foreign tax havens. One official said "chip shop owners, taxi drivers and landladies from Blackpool" were under investigation.
