5,000 put names to Edinburgh airport web petition

NEARLY 5,000 people have now pledged their opposition to the planned Edinburgh airport terminal drop-off charge.

An online petition launched by Lothians Tory MSP Gavin Brown has attracted almost 3,500 signatures, while party officials have collected more than 1,000 additional names on the streets of towns across the Lothians.

They added 200 supporters during canvassing in Livingston and Linlithgow yesterday, in addition to handing out 500 petition forms to rail commuters at Waverley and Haymarket stations in Edinburgh. Separate taxi petitions have had more than 100 signatures.

However, an Edinburgh airport spokesman said: "Mr Brown now appears to be arguing for less investment in quality facilities and fewer routes and travel opportunities for his constituents. We don't believe that this is what they want, and it is not a strategy that BAA intends to pursue."
