50 pensioners plus arrested in Lothians

MORE than 50 pensioners were arrested by Lothian and Borders Police in a single year for offences including rape, carrying a knife and drug possession.

Men aged 76, 66 and 65 were charged with rape during 2010, although it is not known when the alleged offences were carried out.

A total of 54 pensioners, including 15 women, were arrested and charged by police over the year.

Some 36 out of the 54 pensioners arrested in 2010 were charged with an assault.
