40 years of service marked for fireman

A SENIOR officer has honoured a fireman from a three-generation firefighting family who has retired after 40 years of service.

Robert Cumming, 60, his son Kevin, 40, brother Andrew, 58, and late father Robert have given more than 100 years’ service between them.

Yesterday, Strathclyde Fire & Rescue chief officer Brian Sweeney presented Mr Cumming with a retirement certificate at Ayr fire station.Afterwards, a reception was held in Mr Cumming’s honour, attended by family, friends and colleagues.

Mr Cumming, who lives in Ayr, was also presented with a commemorative engraved bronze tally, the identification marker firefighters give to the officer in charge when they enter a burning building and collect when they come back out so they can tell if anyone is missing.
