40% of men propose abroad

AS MANY as 40 per cent of men are choosing a foreign holiday hotspot to propose to their partner, according to a survey.

The United States is the most popular destination to pop the question, the poll by www.travelmatch.co.uk found.

More than 70 per cent of women had a feeling that a proposal was imminent, while 27 per cent were absolutely certain they would be asked.

Around 40 per cent of men said the proposal did not go as planned, blaming nerves and inability to find the right moment.

Top proposal location was a restaurant, followed by a well-known monument or country landmark.

Around 9 per cent of men proposed on a beach.

Based on responses from 1,000 adults who had married or got engaged in the past three years, the survey showed that couples who get engaged abroad spend an average of 4,687 on the engagement.
