3,200 Mexican police fail lie tests

Mexico's federal police agency has fired nearly 10 per cent of its force this year for failing lie detector and other tests.

Mexico's 35,000 federal police are required periodically to take lie detector, psychological and drug tests. The government also routinely investigates their finances and personal life.

The Federal Police Commissioner, Facundo Rosas, yesterday said that 3,200 officers had been dismissed already this year for failing to meet some of those criteria.

They are banned from taking jobs in any other Mexican security force.

Rosas said that another 1,020 police were facing unspecified disciplinary measures.
