3000 car bays in city

THERE are nearly 3000 on-street parking spaces in the city centre, council figures have shown.

Around 900 of the spaces are permit-only bays, the council said, but there are also 3600 spaces in privately-run, off-street car parks.

Last year, figures showed most of the city's off-street parking spaces were lying empty.
