25 firefighters battle blaze on Arthur's Seat

MORE than 20 firefighters battled a huge gorse fire on Arthur's Seat yesterday afternoon.

The blaze, which covered 1000 square metres, started in Holyrood Park just after 3pm.

A total of 25 firefighters attended the scene and used two high pressure hose reels, beaters and six backpacks containing water to extinguish the fire, which was brought under control just before 5pm.

A police spokesman said there were not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire.

Nobody was injured in the blaze, photographed by Kieran Naughton.

Four pumping and two special appliances attended the scene, with the last appliance returning to Tollcross station at 6.30pm.

Police closed roads within and around Holyrood Park and motorists were unable to drive from Dynamic Earth to the Royal Commonwealth Pool.

The road was also closed from the Commonwealth Pool roundabout to Duddingston village.
