GUNNERS at Edinburgh Castle will fire a 21-gun salute tomorrow to celebrate the Queen's official 80th birthday.

The ceremonial celebration will see Gunners from 207 Battery, 105 Regiment Royal Artillery (Volunteers) firing the salute at noon.

"I am sure the day will prove to be a fitting tribute to Her Majesty, and an impressive spectacle."

The Master Gunner St James's Park, General Sir Alex Harley KBE CB, will be the Inspecting Officer. The Escorting Officer is Major General Euan Loudon CBE, Governor of Edinburgh Castle and General Officer Commanding the Army's 2nd Division.

The Master Gunner St James's Park is the most senior officer in the Royal Regiment of Artillery below Her Majesty The Queen, who is Captain General.

It is a post that has been in existence for more than 300 years and is descended from a post which existed almost 600 years ago.

Edinburgh Castle is one of two Saluting Stations in Scotland, the other being Stirling Castle.
