20mph zone green light

TRAFFIC calming measures costing £150,000 are set to be installed in the Capital's west end amid fears the tram project will increase cars in the area.

Two-thirds of the work is expected to be paid for out of the tram budget after residents in the Coates area won council backing for a 20mph zone.

Approval of the 20mph zone, to the north of the A8 bounded by Haymarket Terrace, Palmerston Place and the former Donaldson's school, comes after police raised concerns about a proposed 20mph zone in the south of the city, which will not have traffic calming.

The council's transport committee will approve the zone tomorrow.
