150 child alerts by NHS scheme

A SCHEME which sees hospitals flag up if a child on the protection register is admitted has uncovered more than 150 cases in the space of three months.

The project in West Lothian alerted social work teams if youngsters attended accident and emergency, inpatient departments or failed to show for a scheduled outpatient appointment.

There were 70 youngsters who went to casualty between June and August, 40 who were inpatients and 46 who missed appointments.
