14 charged after Aberdeen domestic violence blitz

The offensive was carried out throughout the weekend in a series of operations in the Mastrick, Northfield, Seaton, Torry and city centre areas directed against domestic abuse and alcohol-related violence.

A spokesman for the Aberdeen Division of Police Scotland said: “Following the weekend’s action, a 31 year-old man from the Seaton area was arrested in relation to domestic assault and a breach of bail; a 37 year-old man also from the Seaton area was arrested in relation to domestic assault; a 35 year-old man was arrested in connection with a serious assault, and a 31 year-old woman from the Torry area was arrested in connection with a domestic assault and threats.

“A number of people were arrested in relation to breaching their bail conditions, including a 17 year-old man from the Northfield area, as well as a 32 year-old man and a 53 year-old man, both from the Mastrick area. In addition, a 39 year-old male from the Torry area was arrested in relation to drugs offences, and several motorists were dealt with for minor road traffic offences.”

He added: “Officers also carried out checks on offenders who have certain conditions attached to them - such as curfews - and also carried out spot checks on a total of twelve licensed premises.”

Chief Superintendent Adrian Watson said: “The continued positive results we have seen from our Campaign Against Violence initiative proves just how we are benefiting as a city from the extra resources that are available to us since 1 April, and the additional officers who have been deployed to provide extra visibility within communities.

“However, although we continue to see good results, we will not become complacent and will continue in our bid to stamp out anti-social behaviour. This includes working with over 70 partner agencies to ensure various issues are addressed within the city centre area.”

Inspector Murray Main, of the force’s Alcohol and Violence Reduction Unit, said: “Domestic violence is a cowardly crime that no-one should have to suffer. We are committed to tackling all forms of domestic abuse - it is despicable and completely unacceptable in society. People should not be suffering in silence

“We will proactively identify and arrest offenders and continue to monitor their compliance with any bail conditions or home curfews after they’ve been to court.”
